# Connection statuses

> Reference for each status badge of a channel in Data Center, the two tooltip lines that say who must act, and the fix messages.

This page lists the statuses of a connection in Data Center. A channel has one status at a time, and the **Status** column of the **Channels** tab shows it. The **Status** filter lists only the statuses that the channels of the workspace have now.

## Statuses

| Status | Notes |
| ------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Connected** | The channel has a live connection. |
| **Syncing** | Shows after **Sync now** in the **Manage** menu of a hosted connect card. The status counts as a live connection. |
| **Backfilling** | Shows after **Re-sync all history** in the **Manage** menu of a hosted connect card. The status counts as a live connection. |
| **Validating** | The status counts as a live connection. |
| **Needs attention** | The connection stopped syncing. Point at the badge to see who must act. |
| **Paused** | Shows after **Pause** in the **Manage** menu of a hosted connect card. The status does not count as a live connection. To start the syncs again, an Admin selects **Resume** in the same menu. |
| **Not connected** | The channel is in your list and has no connection. The badge has a tooltip only when a setup did not finish. |

## Owner of the fix

| Tooltip line | What it means |
| -------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Action needed from you** | You can fix the connection. The line below gives the fix. |
| **We're looking into it** | Prescient is checking the cause. The line below gives the detail. For a connection that stopped with no specific reason, the line says that Prescient contacts you if it needs something from you. |

| Alert in the setup dialog | What it means |
| ------------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **This connection needs a fix** | A red alert. The text below it gives the fix that you can make. |
| **We're finishing this on our side** | A neutral alert. It shows only for a **Not connected** channel whose setup waits on Prescient. |

## Rules

| Subject | Rule |
| -------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Who must act | The tooltip of a **Needs attention** badge starts with **Action needed from you** or **We're looking into it**. |
| Tooltip of a Not connected badge | A **Not connected** badge has a tooltip only when a setup did not finish. The first line reads **Action needed from you** when you can fix the setup, and **We're looking into it** when the setup waits on Prescient. |
| Alert in the setup dialog | The setup dialog shows **This connection needs a fix** when the fix is yours. It shows **We're finishing this on our side** only for a **Not connected** channel whose setup waits on Prescient. For a **Needs attention** channel with **We're looking into it**, the dialog shows no alert. |
| Live connection | **Connected**, **Syncing**, **Validating**, and **Backfilling** each count as a live connection. **Needs attention**, **Paused**, and **Not connected** do not. |

## Fix messages

The tooltip of the status badge shows one of these messages for a connection that needs attention. When the fix is yours, the setup dialog shows the same message.
