# Fix a failed plan

> What to do when a Media Forecaster plan has the status Failed, and how Media Forecaster stops a plan that would fail.

To fix a failed plan, open the plan and read the badge next to the failure. The badge tells you whether the plan needs a settings change or whether the cause is on the Prescient side. The plan page then offers the actions that apply.

## How do you find the cause of a failed plan?

1. On the Media Forecaster page, set the status filter to **Failed**.

2. Open the plan.

3. Read the badge.

4. Read **What happened** and **How to fix it**.

| Badge | Meaning |
| ---------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **On our side, not your settings** | The cause is on the Prescient side. Your settings are not the cause. |
| **Needs a settings change** | The plan can run after you change one or more settings. |

## How do you run a failed plan again?

Select the action on the plan page that matches the fix. The actions that you see depend on who you are and on the dates of the plan. Only the person who created the plan sees **Edit settings and re-run** and the action that runs the plan without a campaign. The retry action does not show after the end date of the plan has passed. Each person who can see the plan can duplicate it.

| Action | What it does |
| ---------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Retry optimization or Retry forecast** | Runs the plan again with the same settings. |
| **Edit settings and re-run** | Opens the plan settings so that you can change the settings and run the plan again. |
| **Duplicate instead** | Makes a copy of the plan that you can change and run. |
| **Duplicate to edit** | Makes a copy of the plan that you can change and run. |
| **Run without this campaign** | Removes the campaign that blocks the plan and runs the plan again. |

The name of the retry button depends on the plan type.

### Change the settings and run the plan again

1. Select **Edit settings and re-run**.

The wizard opens with the settings of the failed plan. If the planning period started more than 14 days ago, or is over, the wizard moves the dates forward and keeps the length of the period.

2. Change the setting that **How to fix it** names.

3. Select **Re-run plan**.

### Run the plan without a campaign

If one or more campaigns of the plan have no modeled curve, the plan page offers **Run without this campaign** to the person who created the plan. For more than one campaign, the button gives the number of campaigns.

1. Select **Run without this campaign**.

2. In the confirmation, select **Remove and run**.

> **When the cause is on the Prescient side:** If the badge reads **On our side, not your settings**, your settings are not the cause. The plan page lists what to do. The steps are "Retry the plan." and then "If it fails again, contact your Customer Success Manager." or "If it times out again, contact your Customer Success Manager."

## How does Media Forecaster prevent failed plans?

Media Forecaster checks each plan before the run. If a check finds a problem, the wizard shows the problem next to the step that causes it, and the plan cannot run until you fix the problem. Many problems have a button that applies the fix, for example a button that sets the budget to an amount that fits.

These are the problems that the checks find:

- The budget is below the amount that the selected media must spend.
- The budget is more than the selected media can absorb.
- The spend flexibility band cannot run with a fixed budget.
- One or more rows with a **Fixed**, **Min spend**, or **Max spend** limit do not fit the spend flexibility band.
- A selected model is not ready for planning.
- One or more selected campaigns are not in your latest model, or have no modeled curve.
- One or more selected campaigns are not published for planning yet, are not available for planning yet, or have conflicting models.
- On a plan that starts before today, the recorded spend of the past days uses the full budget, or the past days already delivered the target.

A budget that is more than 2 times the reference spend, or less than half of it, produces a warning. The warning does not stop the plan.
