# Fix a channel that needs attention

> How to find out who must act on a Needs attention status, how an Admin reconnects a channel, and how to correct a Google Sheets source.

A channel with the status **Needs attention** stopped sending data. First find out who must act: point at the status badge and read the first line of the tooltip. If the line reads **Action needed from you**, an Admin can fix the connection with the steps on this page.

## Who must act?

The tooltip of a **Needs attention** badge starts with one of two lines.

| First line | What it means |
| -------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Action needed from you** | You can fix the connection. The line below gives the fix. |
| **We're looking into it** | Prescient is checking the cause. The line below gives the detail. For a connection that stopped with no specific reason, the line says that Prescient contacts you if it needs something from you. |

The text below the first line gives the reason, and the fix when the fix is yours.

## How do you reconnect a channel?

Many fix messages ask you to reconnect, for example when a login expired or a permission was removed.

1. On the **Channels** tab, select the menu at the end of the row, then select **Edit connection**.

The dialog shows the alert **This connection needs a fix** with the reason.

2. Use the button of the form.

   - For a hosted connect card, select **Reconnect**.
   - For a sign-in with the provider, select the button that starts with **Reauthorize with** or **Reconnect with**.
   - For a credential form, enter the new values and select **Update credentials**.

3. Sign in and approve access again, with an account that has access to the data.

After you reconnect, read the status of the row again. If the status is still **Needs attention**, read the tooltip for the reason.

## What do the fix messages say?

The dialog and the tooltip show one of the first six messages when the fix is yours. The last row is the tooltip text when Prescient is checking the cause.

| Cause | Message |
| --------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Lost access | We lost access to this account: its login expired or its permissions were removed. Reconnect it in Data Center to restore access. |
| Login or setup stopped | This connection needs you: its login or setup stopped working. Reconnect it in Data Center to get data flowing again. |
| Action before the next sync | This connection needs an action from you before it can sync again. Reconnect it in Data Center to restore access. |
| Lost authorization | This connection lost its authorization. Reconnect it in Data Center to restore access. |
| Stopped syncing | This connection stopped syncing. Reconnect it in Data Center to get data flowing again; if that doesn't fix it, contact <support@prescientai.com>. |
| Formula error in a sheet | Some rows in your sheet show a formula error (like #N/A) where the date should be. Fix those cells and it will sync on the next run. |
| Needs attention | This connection stopped syncing and we're looking into why. We'll reach out if we need anything from you. Still here in a few days? Contact <support@prescientai.com>. |

## How do you correct a Google Sheets source?

For a channel that reads a Google Sheet, the fix message can name a problem in the sheet.

- **A formula error in a date cell.** Correct each cell that shows an error where the date must be. The channel syncs on the next run.
- **A date that Prescient cannot read.** The message quotes the value. Use dates in the form YYYY-MM-DD. The form YYYY/MM/DD also passes the check.
- **A different sheet or named range.** To point the channel at a different sheet or range, open **Edit connection**, paste the address in **Google Sheet URL**, select **Find ranges**, select the range, then select **Connect**.

## What if Prescient must act?

When the first line reads **We're looking into it**, Prescient is checking the cause. The setup dialog shows no alert for this case. For a connection that stopped with no specific reason, the tooltip gives the text in the last row of the [table of fix messages](https://docs.prescientai.com/data-center/fix-a-channel-that-needs-attention#what-do-the-fix-messages-say). The text says that Prescient contacts you if it needs something from you.

A **Not connected** channel can also show **We're looking into it**, when its setup waits on Prescient. The setup dialog of that channel shows the alert **We're finishing this on our side**.

> **If you are a Viewer:** A Viewer can read the tooltip and cannot reconnect a channel. Send the reason to an Admin of your workspace. To give the Admin a direct link, select **Copy setup link** in the menu of the row.
